Cyan Art Studio is THRILLED to have found the beautiful, mystical and powerful art of Harry Clarke! Known for his work in book illustrations and intricate stained glass, Clarke was a leading figure in the Irish Arts and Crafts Movement. Clarke was also significantly influenced by the Art Nouveau and Art Deco movements, seen in his intricate illustrations and strong symbolism. You can find another one of his illustrations in our Print Gallery (from his commission to illustrate "The Little Mermaid" by Hans Christian Anderson).
This powerful imagery is explained by the text on back of the postcard:
Commissioned for a short story by Edgar Allen Poe, the illustration depicts the reincarnated heroine Ligeia, drawn in pen and ink.
"In the excitement of my opium dreams, I would call aloud upon her name, during the silen e of the night, or amogn the sheltered recesses of the glens by day."
